Légion Étrangère (Estonia (Mission Lynx), Mali (Operation Barkhane), USA (Exercise Bold Alligator))
EMPLOYER : Légion Étrangère POSITION: Combat engineer / Interpreter / Heavy plant operator PERIOD: April 2019 – August 2019 COUNTRY: Estonia (Mission Lynx) Duties: Based in Tapa, exchanging knowledge and conducting training with British and Estonian troops, NATO exercise consisting of rural and urban environment route clearance, search, and identification of explosive ordinance and IEDs, clearance and building of obstacles and defences e.g., anti-tank trenches, concertina barbed wire, abatis, trenches, combat posts. EMPLOYER : Légion Étrangère POSITION: Combat Engineer / Gunner / Radio operator PERIOD: Feb 2018 – June 2018 COUNTRY: Mali (Operation Barkhane) Duties: Based in Gao, working alongside the Malian armed forces (FAMa), route clearance ahead of convoy for possible Landmines or IEDs, marking and avoiding or destroying such threats as the situation demands, search for weapons caches and explosive ordinance, in and around populated areas, conducting check point searches of vehicles and personnel at French forward operating bases and along the Mali/Niger border, patrolling known and suspected areas of insurgent activity, operating the (VAB) armoured personnel carrier 50.cal browning machine gun and providing radio communications for the vehicle within the convoy and group. EMPLOYER: Legion Étrangère POSITION: Combat Engineer / Interpreter / Radio Operator PERIOD: Sept 2017 – Nov 2017 COUNTRY: USA (Exercise Bold Alligator) Duties: Based in Camp Lejeune, exchanging knowledge and conducting training with 2nd combat engineer battalion of the United States Marine Corps (USMC), large-scale NATO exercise consisting of conducting beach assaults from the USS Arlington, route clearance in rural and urban environment, building to building clearance and search for IEDs and munitions caches, large scale demolitions utilising breaching charges, cutting charges, shaped charges, Bangalores, and plastic explosives, communications with fellow NATO forces over radio and acting as interpreter between the French and English speaking combat engineer units.
